MiniDiscs are one of the more atypical music release formats in the United States, and were produced from 1992 through 2013. Shaped as a square, the disk is housed in a cartridge with a sliding door. During those 21 years The Smashing Pumpkins have had two albums and a soundtrack featured on the MiniDisc format (Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, Machina/The Machines of God, and the Singles soundtrack).
MiniDiscs were very popular in Japan but made a limited impact elsewhere. The format is pretty elusive and hard to locate. If you find one, make sure to add it to your collection!
